Free Pedestrian Safety Assessments for California Cities

Does your city want to:

  • Improve pedestrian safety?
  • Create safe, comfortable, accessible, welcoming environments for pedestrians?
  • Enhance the walkability and economic vitality of certain locations?

Tech Transfer provides FREE Pedestrian Safety Assessments (PSA) to California cities upon request, thanks to funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

What are Pedestrian Safety Assessments?

A team of two pedestrian safety experts will visit your city for two days to conduct an evaluation to help the city achieve the above objectives. These two experts will perform field observations, analyze relevant data and information, and hold discussions with the city's key staff and representatives. In addition, these experts can review the city's current pedestrian safety related programs, with a view to increasing the overall effectiveness of the programs. After completing the two-day visit, the evaluators will prepare a report for the city summarizing their findings and recommendations. All for no charge to the city!

How to Request a Pedestrian Safety Assessment

Any agency within a city in California may request a Pedestrian Safety Assessment from Tech Transfer. To learn more about Pedestrian Safety Assessments or to request one for your city, simply send an email to pedsafety@techtransfer.berkeley.edu. Information is also available on the Pedestrian Safety Assessments page.

A limited number of assessments are available each year, so request yours now.
