From Tech Transfer Newsletter » printer-friendly Road Shows: Affordable Training For California Cities and CountiesWhat are road shows?Road shows are short, intensive training workshops for cities and counties in California. Most road shows are four hours long. We can deliver this training on-site at an agency's location for $600 per session. One road show, "Basic Thickness and Overlay Design for Asphalt Pavements" is six-hours-long and costs $900 per session. The cost is all-inclusive: it includes all of the instructor's expenses and course materials for up to 35 attendees. It's one of the best training bargains around. Who are road shows for?We offer 20 road shows that are tailored for people working in road construction at cities and counties, including:
Additionally, two of our road shows are intended for regional planners and cover topics in planning and the environment. What topics do road shows cover?Road shows cover many key aspects of pavement design and materials, road maintenance, worker safety, work zone operations, project management, planning and the environment, and traffic operations. Sessions can be mixed and matched to meet your complete training goals. For a complete list of our road shows, visit Tech Transfer's Road Shows page. How can my city benefit from a road show?Road shows offer agencies a low-cost, low-fuss way to train an entire crew at once in practical topics that are tailored to meet the needs of each agency. For example, rather than sending someone to a long, broad training session about pavement maintenance, an agency that is experiencing roadway drainage problems could request the Roadway Drainage Techniques road show (IDM-11RS) and will receive specialized training that focuses on the topic of concern. Also, at only $600 for most sessions, it is often less expensive for an agency to provide a road show for the entire staff than it would be to send just two or three employees for outside training. Additionally, neighboring cities that share common training needs could schedule a road show together to split expenses and share experiences. How do I request a road show? It's easy. Fill out a request form at Tech Transfer's Road Shows page or send e-mail to schedule your session.
